Where the Wild Things Are
Dear Diary,
Today we went to the zoo. It was incredible! Here we are at an aquarium with stadium seating, where we watched the wildlife as they interacted in their natural habitat. We're watching some sort of chase or hunt. I think the yellow one is going to win.

Transience in the Secret Garden
Artwork above the city.
The High Line - converted railroad tracks provide a makeshift park above the city. Crowds flock. Environmentalists weep.

Sun Salutation
Even the sculptures like to enjoy the warm, sunny days. This is the back view of a sculpture of Gertrude Stein, looking like she's deep in meditation.

Getting the Hint
Around the time that I received the above "look", a dog trotted over to me and very deliberately attempted to urinate on my foot. Clearly these dogs were camera-shy. I know when I'm not wanted.

Life Imitating Art
The parallel linearity of the fence/lampposts/trees in Central Park reminds me of a painting that I saw once, whose name forever eludes me.

One-way Track
Am I the only person who finds interesting life metaphors at train stations? It's possible.

Engulfment
I like how these rocks take on a soft, almost water-like quality from a distance. To me, it looked almost as if the woman, engrossed in her book, was in danger of being swept away on a wave of granite.

Serenity
Religious or not, I find something peaceful about seeing churches nestled between the skyscrapers and the corporate conglomerates that make up most of this concrete jungle.

Love in the Strangest Places
New Yorkers are apparently very fond of emblazoning tattoos on their landmarks and structures. The vast majority of these harsh, brittle carvings memorialize some particular moment of love.

Leaves of Grass
The New York Public Library always impresses me, with its grand, high-ceilinged reading rooms and hushed, reverent tones. I remain amazed at the billions (according to a quick internet estimate) of books in the world, each one quietly hoping to be read.

Say Hello to My Little Friend
I found this man walking through the city, holding the small flowerpot as if it was a portable friend. It was both a little strange and incredibly endearing.
