Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner

Sarni and I went for an 8-mile hike in the Catskills this past weekend.  Actually I lied, it's not the Catskills, its Harriman State Park, but I really wanted to use the "baby in the corner" title.  It's always refreshing to be able to get out into the fresh air.  Not too far though - that's the NYC skyline in the distance (above).

We hiked up Diamond Mountain, along Stony Brook.  Here, we're hiking to Pine Meadow Lake.

The bright, beautiful colors of fall foliage were just starting to peek through.  (Disclaimer:  Sarni and I searched for the reddest leaves we could find, which resulted in us holding up the group while we picked random leaves up off the ground.)

Pine Meadow Lake, where we ate lunch.  It's a man-made lake.  (New York is not as enriched with nature as some other states - we sometimes have to create our own.)

On the way home, we stopped at a cute farm stand, where Sarni bought an apple-pear-raspberry-blueberry crumble.  Yum.  Although maybe not as yum as the giant chocolate chip-walnut cookie I bought from Levain Bakery back in the city (74th and Amsterdam, highly recommend).

Hudson Valley.  On Canon Powershot.

  1. Hurro Gro-bug. =) My first post! Dig the hazy NY skyline shot, nice juxtaposition of urban and nature. Is it weird that the dried decorative corn made me hungry? PS, i've never seen Dirty Dancing!

  2. Ha! I never said where the quote was from, you have outed yourself as a secret Dirty Dancing fan!

No way, dried decorative corn is always a treat. Mmm. Decorative.
